Title: Consultants
Location: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan
IREX Europe is looking for consultants to assist in a long term project to be conducted in Central Asia. IREX Europe envisages contracting consultants for a series of medium term (3-4 week) consultancies over 24 months from the beginning of 2008. Some training will be provided.
Activities will take lace in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Each trip will involve travel within the region and multiple training sessions.
The project will exploit the potential of local media to raise awareness of key issues affecting women and children in Central Asia and empower civil society to take appropriate action. In order to achieve these goals, the project will implement three core strategies:
- The six partner organisations will build local media capacity to provide balanced and inclusive coverage of the problems faced by women and young people in the region;
- Key stakeholders will work to mobilise grass-roots media networks capable of disseminating information amongst vulnerable groups;
- The initiative will forge stronger links between the media and civil society organisations with a view to improving the information flow between the two sectors.
The project’s media training programme will equip journalists with the skills necessary to present gender issues in an engaging and accessible way. Following classroom-based sessions, participants will co-produce
TV films, radio programmes and newspaper features in collaboration with international trainers. These outputs will focus on issues such as domestic violence, human trafficking, child labour, child prostitution and traditional practices
The project represents a partnership between three international organisations (the BBC World Service Trust, IREX (Europe) and the Eurasia Media Centre), two local journalism training centres (the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan and the Osh Media Resource Center in Kyrgyzstan) and Bereke, a Kazakh NGO with a strong track record in civil society development.
IREX Europe is looking specifically for the following expertise:
- NGO Media relations trainers: trainers with a combination of media and civil society experience. The selected candidate will receive a short training at IREX Europe in Lyon. IREX has developed a training manual for Media NGO training.
- Media Management trainer: the ideal candidate will have experience in management training at small to mediaum sized media organisations in developing countries as well as a sound background in Media management.
- Journalism and production trainers: training in production of features on women’s issues and children’s issues in tv, radio and print format.
